Holiday Stress

Claustrophobia.Bizarro ComicsIn anticipation of the holidays, I’ve gotten a nasty cold. I’m gargling with salt water, drinking hot tea with honey and lemon, slurping chicken soup, periodically sticking my head under a towel perched above a pot of simmering water enhanced with Vicks VapoRub. I even treated myself to a day spa so that I could sit in a steam room. Still the cold persists. I’ve been glued to the couch watching QVC and feeling sorry for myself, except today it was 80 degrees in L.A., so really what is there to complain about. And even better, my dear friend checks in with me every day, and over the weekend, he brought me dinner.

Get well soon! The chicken soup should help. Plus a little QVC-TLC couldn’t hurt.

My cold usually waits until the day AFTER Christmas to arrive and ruin the rest of my vacation.

Oh, dear, Wendy–I’m sending “get well soon” vibes your way! Rest is best, QVC-enhanced or not. And by the way, you’re SUPPOSED to indulge in a little self-pity during a cold–it’s the law!

Take it easy and I hope you are back feeling 100% soon.

I’m not used to being sick, and I’m sick and tired of it. I did manage to get through most of a ballet class today, to try and sweat it out. So at least I’m off the couch. I appreciate your kind thoughts.

That “dear friend” sounds like a keeper!

Wendy: Feel better!! Petra’s advice is right-on: Rest + Chicken Soup is the way. QVC? Hey, to each his (or her!) own!

Oh. Feel better soon. My go to when colds hit me is to grab the Cold-Eeze lozenges and start popping them. I know they leave an awful after taste but the fact that they cut the duration in half or more makes the minor discomfort well worth it. In the mean time rest, enjoy QVC and drink lots and lots of fluids.

That’s an excellent friend you have! 🙂

I normally get sick this time of year, too, although I’ve been lucky the last two years, and I’m holding my luck will hold out again this year.

The salt water gargle and chicken soup are my remedies of choice, and I also usually crave apple juice when I’m sick (which is weird, because I hate apple juice the rest of the time.)

I don’t ever watch QVC, but I am a classic movie fan and a sappy sentimentalist, so I have to be careful about what I watch when I’m battling a cold. Nothing’s worse than devolving into tears at the end of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” when I’m already congested (found that out the hard way…)

    Get well soon!
