Cloak of Invisibility

Franco MatticchioThis must sound preposterous to those of you in the midst of a winter storm, but here in L.A. it’s in the mid-fifties and I’m bundling up. I just came in from walking the dog wearing tattered Uggs, a North face fleece jacket and a wool beanie. I’m quite a sight. I walk fast and keep my head down hoping none of my neighbors catch a glimpse.

50 degree weather feels cold when you’re used to it being 80. Our windchill right now is 16 degrees…so 50 would feel like a heatwave! Don’t feel bad for whining…I complain when it’s hot and complain when it’s cold. 🙂

My experience is that when it’s cold in California (relatively speaking), it feels colder than other places, because our homes aren’t insulated or well heated. Of course, outside is another story. And yes, we’re just not used to it.

I don’t blame you at all! Even when spent time in L.A. a few Septembers ago, I was surprised how cool it got after the sun went down. I was grateful to have my hoodie.

When I moved from San Francisco, I couldn’t believe anyone ever thought it was cold enough to warrant Uggs. Not I totally get it. In any case, it’s raining right now, and we are thrilled!!!

More than 10 inches of snow fell last night and this morning in lovely Baltimore. The temperature is around 36 degrees. That is in comparison to all this month where the “high” was 25 degrees, 27 degrees. When it got over 30, I was practically ready for hot pants. My employer closed today and we’ll probably be closed tomorrow too. But don’t worry, I have a spinach frittata cooling and a bottle of riesling at the ready. I’m totally prepared. 🙂

My area ended up getting over a foot of snow with little snow falls still coming throughout the day. Yesterday it was 46 degrees and I had sunglasses on and my coat open. 🙂
