Is it Obvious that I’m Single?

Rock Paper ScissorOn the street yesterday, a stranger approached to pet my dog (who is adorable, so I can understand) and said out of the blue, “is she your Valentines?” Must have been the outfit.

Not to mention that the more people one meets, the more one likes one’s dog (or cat).

Agreed, even though my dog could be a jerk when meeting new people (he was large and super-handsome, but uber-protective). He doesn’t have to like everyone; why should I?

Rose was around a lot of dogs (and people) from the time when she was a puppy. So she’s pretty sociable. Though big dogs intimidate her.

I’d say, “love” is more apt. And apparently it showed.

That’s as bad as the people who assume because I have 2 cats that I am a) single – I am but it’s none of their business, b) a crazy cat lady who wants nothing more than to collect more cats – the two I have are getting quite elderly and are quite enough to handle thank you very much, and c) I’m going to die old and alone with no one but my cats around to note my passing – I have lots of friends and some very close family and travel and am quite involved in the world again, not your business and thank you very much. People make such broad assumptions about people who have animal companions particularly when they are women who happen to be unattached.

I share your frustration, Michele. And I’m here (as we all are) to prove that their misconceptions about single people are wrong.
