Snail Mail

Yusuke Yonezu.pg

At the entrepreneurial car wash in my neighborhood, they have a card stand perfectly situated in the narrow walkway between dropping off your vehicle and the cash register. You can’t miss it. I’ve wondered lately if anyone, other than grandparents, still mails out birthday cards? Do you?

While I love the idea, it gets quite expensive – $5-6 for a birthday card, plus postage, and the card will be tossed after a few days? No thanks. For those that I would send cards to, I call them instead and play Happy Birthday for them and subject them to 20seconds of my singing.

I do send thank you cards, though, and I really enjoy doing that.

Most of my friends don’t send cards anymore, and I think they’re all find with it.

The whole thing does seem very 20th century (or 19th or 18th). I keep up with the practice, especially with friends who don’t live near by.

There’s just something nice about receiving a hand addressed envelope in the masses of paper that arrive in the mail box everyday. When I see a card or letter it really lifts my spirits. They are few and far between but I still buy cards and have a stock pile for when i need them. I especially like the funny ones and keep those for people with good sense of humor. I only call my closest friends and family members.

Oh, hell yes! Close friends and my sister receive cards in the mail (my parents seem to be enthralled with the animated ecards, so that’s what they get). I LOVE getting cards–there’s something so special about that.

One of my dearest friends sends me a card (actually a letter written in a beautiful card) every few weeks. I’m so grateful to receive them and I’ve started sending some to her (previously it was always an email response to her cards). I do receive birthday cards from her as well.

I do! And thank you cards, and just because cards. Everybody likes to get mail. Plus I have an awesome stockpile of stickers to put on them.

I mail birthday cards to family members that I’m close to (my sister, my niece, my nephew), but not to anyone else. Yes, it’s gotten pretty pricey, but it’s also because I know myself and my limits – if I started sending cards outside of that small circle, I know I wouldn’t keep up with it for more than a couple of months, and I wouldn’t want anyone to feel slighted from my sending a card one year, and then not sending one the next year.

I do send out a lot of Christmas cards, though. I know it’s a dying tradition, but I’m not willing to give it up just yet. Besides, I still enjoy shopping for the cards – there’s one out there for every taste!

I love to send cards- and for any occasion too. I have a large collection at home and stock up on fun stamps too. It’s wonderful to get something that isn’t bills or trash, and puts a big smile on my face! Just today I got a thank you text from someone after she got a thank you card from me, which also made me feel good. I always want to brighten people’s day!
