I always feel liberated by getting my hair cut, like I am shedding something that has been weighing me down. Obviously it was a daring thing to do in her day, but even now, to go really short, or make any significant change in hair length or style, feels kind of daring too.
Hmmmm–I got my hair cut shorter (not short) about 4 weeks ago, with very short bangs and lots of layers. Didn’t like it then, but love it now (the bangs are perfect!) But my life IS about to change–big kitchen remodel starts next month (basically a gut job). Maybe my kitchen change is the substituting for my haircut.
I do think going short is daring (as Robin notes). I’d better find some other dare, though, as the hair looks good now!
Well, Wendy, I was sort of hoping you’d invite me to LA for a month and cook for me 😉
Seriously, I’ll have stuff in the freezer (I’ll have a microwave at my disposal) and I’ll probably eat more stuff from the grocery store deli than I normally do.
My friends recently gutted their kitchen. It took 4 months. But they set up a side table with a microwave and toaster oven, and did almost everything else on the grill. They survived and the kitchen is fabulous!
After having hair down to the middle of my back for a couple of decades, I went to shoulder length hair three years ago. I can report that, YES, it did precede a change in my life! 🙂
My hair is pretty short most of the time, but 2 months ago, I got a micro cut and got so many compliments. People I barely knew made a point of saying how much they liked it.
that happened to me once in college; where I went from long hair to short hair, and received so many compliments, including from people who I’d never spoken to. They seemed so excessive it sort of sounded like ‘you hair looks SO MUCH BETTER now’, and ever since then I’ve been wary of growing my hair long.
I love having short hair. I suspect it gets so much attention because short hair has in my opinion must more personality and character. If you’ve seen one ponytail you’ve seen them all but something about a short ‘do says you aren’t afraid to face life head on.
When my hair was long, I rarely put it in a ponytail after my cousin’s daughter told me that I had “Barbie hair”, lol. I became a master at the single French braid, a la Elsa from “Frozen”. I like my hair short, but every once in a while, I kind of miss my French braid.
It’s been almost 20 years since she said that to me, and I’m still not sure if she meant it as a compliment or not; she was about 12 years old at the time, and just coming into her own in terms of sassiness, so it probably wasn’t a compliment or an insult so much as it was a little bit of friendly family teasing, lol. She’s had really long hair herself for years (since she was a teenager), and just had it cut short into a very cute bob about two weeks ago. I’m keeping my eyes open for changes in her life right now (her mother is hoping for grandchildren soon, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed).
Great timing – I’ve got a haircut scheduled for tomorrow. (I’m going short). I wonder what changes I’m headed for…
I love short hair. It’s the best!

In L.A., it’s still a big deal. Very few women wear their hair short. When I first moved here, I found that very disorientating.

Good luck with your kitchen remodel. That takes a lot of courage and patience. What are you going to do for food in the interim?

But most importantly, do you like your hair short?

I have to admit to a little ponytail envy.
Ha! The ponytail is where creativity goes to die! Resist, resist! 🙂
I have no choice but to resist.

Barbie hair! That’s so funny. Did she mean it as an insult or a compliment?

You should ask her if she remembers.
I’m not sure I want to know, lol.
No reason to ask then. Just imagine it as a compliment.
