I dragged myself out of bed on Sunday morning to accompany friends with their toddler for his weekly swimming lesson. He was in a group with 4 other kids, ranging in age from a year to 18 months. I’d never seen such young children learning to swim before. They were amazing, all floating on their backs, jumping off mats into the water. There was no fear, just joy at the thrill of taking a risk. It was inspiring.

I was a lifeguard and swimming teacher in high school and college. I loved teaching the littlest ones. They were so sweet and fun! It really is incredible that they trust some stranger and hop in the water! (Or will after a little coaxing)
The swimming teacher (a 20 something guy) was incredibly sweet with the kids. Really nurturing. It was joyous.
I ride horses and it’s always the little kids that do the best. They jump higher and gallop faster. I, on the other hand, have a healthy knowledge of my own mortality.
They also can recover from injuries way faster.
