Can You Be Happy Dining Alone?

Franco Matticchio

In the dressing room of my ballet studio the other day, I overheard a conversation between two older women, one of whose husbands had recently retired

– So, what’s it like having your husband at home all the time?
– About the same. We play our own music, watch our own TV shows. We only see each other at dinner.
– At least you have that. It’s so much nicer to share a meal with someone.

And then I chimed in:
– On many nights, I cook myself delicious food and eat alongside my dog. It’s very satisfying.
