Never Say Goodbye

When Mad Men debuted in 2007 with these gorgeous opening credits, I was an instant fan. Online, I watched the title sequence again and again, even showing it to a web designer as inspiration for First Person Singular. It was with a heavy heart that I viewed the finale. But I made a celebration of it, inviting friends over for dinner of Pot au Feu and chocolate. I’ve already rewatched the final episode, and I’m comforted the show will live on in digital perpetuity.

I liked the feel and the mood of the opening but I always cringed at the man falling in front of the building as it always made me think of WTC and 9/11 – creepy but I almost wanted to write the Weiner and tell him how disturbing that was. I worked in a restaurant that catered to those MADISON Ave types at lunch in Manhattan in the early 70’s and they really did drink like that! Will miss the show but there was never enough of it. Short seasons and over too quickly.

Yes, there was an ominous quality to the opening credits. But for the most part, I think Weiner gave us an optimistic and satisfying ending.
