I don’t own a bike, but this Friday I am going on a bike ride for the first time since I was probably 11. I have this itch to ride again. So if all goes well, riding a bike will be a regular part of my life again.
I really need a new one. I haven’t ridden my bike in a couple years. I’ve actually outgrown it. I’ve had it since I was 13 (just about half my life!!) and need a lighter, larger one. Whenever I visit a new city, however, I do a bike share. Zipping around town on a bike is the very best way to explore a new place, not to mention exhilarating!
There is one in the garage–in serious need of some work. I like the idea of using it for errands, but there aren’t many bike lanes in the area and I’m more comfortable walking. But I keep telling myself that I’ll get it tuned up and start using it again (it’s probably been 5 years!) Maybe this is the year?
We’re getting more and more bike lanes in L.A. and we have major bike events where large swaths of neighborhoods become car-free zones. People are so sick of traffic here, where it’s the worst in the country.
This is just beyond ridiculous. I can’t imagine not being allowed to ride my bike because I am female. It’s stories like this that make me realize that my problems are not that big of a deal…

That’s great. Let us know how it goes.
That old saying is right. You never forget how to ride a bike. I was a little shaky at first, but I did very well. Looking forward to going again!
I haven’t been on a bike for many years. I’m starting to get inspired.

A very cool idea. (Except maybe on the hills of San Francisco.)

I’ve been long-distance cycling since I was in my teens. It’s my favorite thing to do and nothing like a 100mile bike ride to change your perspective!
Apparently, there parts of the world that think women and bikes are the work of the devil, as appeared in the news here:

Just wow. And sad. And enraging. Those women who ride are heroes. Thanks for sharing this, Taylor.
How long does it take to bike 100 miles?
