I have a number of friends who are a generation apart in age from me, and I love that. At times, we bring different perspectives, while most of the time we’re right in sync.
My 22 year old friend is beginning to think that she will never own a home of her own … the price of property here in Cambridge U.K. is shocking … I think many young are going to rent for life which is, from what I have read, the norm in Europe.
Home prices in San Francisco, where I used to live, are totally out of control. You have to be rich to be able to buy a house there. The market in Los Angeles is very high right now, too. It feels like another bubble about to burst. I guess it’s global.
Amen to the sunscreen part. I lived in Central America in high school and was on the swim team. I was a lifeguard and a swim teacher during high school and college. My Norwegian and German skin was not built for all of that.
I also would tell my younger self that changing my major from engineering to English was probably not a good career move.
‘stay weird’, ‘cultivate younger friends’ … both excellent pieces of advice …
my best friend at work (hospital) is 22 years old … I am 48 … we have lunch together most days & she talks to me about her life.
I am known for starting to laugh for no seeming no reason … sometimes I find life, breathing, being surrounded by strangers so weird it is funny …
I love this, I am newly 28 and my best friend is turning 65 in a couple weeks. I also met her at work!

What’s your 22 year-old colleague’s most pressing concern?

I just made a post but missed the point …
Advice to my younger self?
He is not the only man in the world you will want to kiss.
Save money so that you can buy a house earlier.
The library has books, you do not need to buy thousands of them.
Floss your teeth every day.
Very sound.
This is perfect timing as today is my birthday!!! I’m 28. I could use all the advice I can get.
You seems like a very wise soul to me, Leyla.
Sometimes the little joys are the best.
It took me a long time to know that.
I would tell younger self to have more confidence and to go forward regardless what others may say.
I have younger friends and co-workers and they are neat to be around with their perspectives.
And yes, stay weird.
What does “stay weird” mean for you, Jalina?
Haha! I was totally thinking what the last guy said. The older I get the less I know!
And also, that advice doesn’t work. (A therapist friend of mine often tells me that, which says a lot coming from a therapist.)
This was WONDERFUL. Thanks so much for sharing.
I’ve watched the video many times, now. It charms me.

This made me laugh. I was an English major too.
