Yesterday was National Dog Day and friends all over Facebook were posting photos of themselves smitten with their hounds. I understand why. There’s hardly a stronger bond than the one with our pets. But I have other ardor to spread around, too. There’s new and old friends, ballet class, Claudia Rankine (don’t miss her profile on Serena Williams), summer tomatoes, going to the movies by myself on a Sunday morning, the artwork of Geoff McFetridge, bolognese sauce, orchids and Stephen Colbert. And of course, there’s you. What makes your top 10 list?

1) my grandma, 87 years young this October, 2) my parents, 3) my bunny (he is really number 1), 4) my horses, 5) my baby nephew, 6) books, 7) Fresh milk from the dairy down the road, 8) hiking by myself, 9) brunch with friends, 10) co-workers that feel like family (including the fighting!).
Here’s an urban girl’s question: How does the taste of fresh milk compare to what we get in the grocery store?
I will never buy grocery store milk again. Fresh grass-fed milk is slightly yellow due to the carotene from the grass, and it has a meadowy after taste. The cows eat grass all day then come into the shed for milking when they need it. Since the liquid is not homogenized, it has a cream layer that you have to shake to mix in. I just drink it as a refreshing snack.
Meadowy. Wow.
Coffee any flavor, shape or form. A rainy day. The smell of freshly cut grass. My parents-even though they drive me nuts! And my pets whose beady little eyes help keep me sane.
