Boo! 2015

Deladeso

I was underdressed in ballet class today, where the Ukranian pianist who accompanies our class, dressed up as a friar, carting a lit candle and a bible. In front was the 6’4” male ballet teacher wearing a skimpy 2-piece costume from the Arabian variation of Nutcracker he performs each Christmas, and many students (all adults) donned sparkly headdresses and masks. It was a festive scene, and I was glad to be a witness in my plain leotard and tights. What will you be wearing?

I would always rather be the witness than the performer, so I am with you on that.

Halloween is becoming increasingly annoying to me for a number of reasons and it is midday Saturday here and I have yet to buy candy. I think I am going to sit it out, at least for this year. However, it makes me feel a bit scrooge-ish. (I live in a neighborhood with lots of little kids.) But then I am irritated that I feel that way and feel I am expected to participate in a holiday in which i have no interest.

I agree – it’s the “expectation” that annoys me. My participation alternates – a year in, a year out; this was my year ‘out’. I was annoyed by how many people still rang the doorbell even though my light was off, no decorations, and front curtains drawn.

At one point in the evening, someone rang the doorbell and when no one answered, tried the door handle. I answered the door for that one – gave a 30-something male and his toddler daughter some stern words. I felt mean doing it, but that is a breach of my privacy.

So yes, after this year especially – not a fan.

Last year, I went trick or treating with my friends and their toddler, on their street. I realized that it was a way for them to meet their neighbors, and that seemed like a nice thing. But I’d hate for anyone to jiggle my door handle. That’s a little creepy.

This year, I bought candy, but no one kids came, so I put the candy in a bowl in my building’s lobby. It’s already long gone. Somehow, I feel better.

Somehow, adults hijacked this kids holiday. Like Robin, this fact annoys me no end, and I also feel scrooge-ish.

My office had a huge office decorating and costume contest. Some sections chose to take the opportunity to put up Christmas decorations, so now we have to endure Christmas crap for two months.

I’ll take a day of Halloween over two months of Christmas any time!

Halloween is my favorite time if year, when it’s ok for everyone else to be just as morbid as I usually am the whole year round! Everyone can showcase their inner weirdness. I wore a mask to my yoga class yesterday. I also never don makeup any other day of the year, so it’s an opportunity to pretend to be someone else. Best holiday of the year!!! I love the kids costumes too.

I dressed up as Super Woman! Halloween was a fun opportunity for me to get out, I met up with many friends and did a lot of dancing. It’s a good night to be out and see all of the costumes. Although I felt sorry for all of the parents and kiddie-poohs where I live, it rained almost 2 inches yesterday, including during prime-trick-or-treat time.

Aw, shucks. You are too Wendy!
