I collected them when I was in middle school. When I was 12, my mother surprised me with a binder and a new pack. It was like a dream come true, I was so thrilled!! It was also completely unexpected, since she abhorred my habit of collecting “worthless junk.” It kept me walking on air for a while. At what other age can a person really get THAT excited about something material? Petra also named a gift she received at age 12. No coincidence!!
Best gift ever was being adopted at the age of 5 by two wonderful people. Second best gift was something I gave myself – my retirement. It’s official, I am retiring January 15th and I plan on going out and finding that little girl all over again.
Pokemon cards.
Why did you choose that, Leyla?

Do you still have the card collection?
Either the Pillsbury cookbook–yellow cover, 3-ring binder style–or a beautiful, hand-drawn mandala. Or maybe the water pistol that shoots jelly!
Who gave you the cookbook?
My parents. I was probably 10 or 12 years old at the time.
They were already grooming you to be a great cook

That is the best gift, ever. Thanks for the perspective!
