I always bake some challah for my dad and this year will not be any different. That said, I don’t have any “musts” on my Christmas list (Thanksgiving is another beast, though). And I love appetizers and cocktails on Christmas Eve. This year I’m putting together a selection of fine Indiana cheeses (and yes, there are some stellar ones here!)
While Whole Foods does a good job of carrying local cheeses, I have also gone to the actual farm or creamery to buy the cheeses. Learning about local/regional producers is a bit of a hobby of mine and for the past couple of years I’ve traveled to some of the small producers. Some are fairly pedestrian, but others have made award-winning cheeses!
I usually end up buying cheese at Whole Foods because it’s convenient and doesn’t require an extra stop. But it’s much more fun to visit a real artisanal cheese store.
I love tiramisu. It’s one of my all time favorites. So, if it’s great please pass on the recipe. Also, what else are you serving? I’m sure it will be fantastic.
I’ve made the tiramisu recipe before. It’s great, and feeds a crowd. For my main course, I’m making an Eastern European Jewish classic – stuffed cabbage (from Barefoot Contessa).
Yes to shrimp cocktail! Yes to appetizers and cheeses!! My Ma has ordered fresh lobster from Maine for Christmas dinner, we’ve done frozen tails in the past but 3 out of 4 of her kids will be home and she is going all out! I am mostly excited to sit around the dinner table eating off the Christmas Spode China, it could be popcorn and toast for all I care I just love having a meal with someone more than just me and my thoughts!
Shrimp cocktail!
I want one right now.

Where do you get Indiana cheeses?

Fresh lobster – that sounds divine.
I love tiramisu…have been known to whip up one or two myself!
It’s a favorite dessert of mine. The last time I was in Italy, I made sure to order it almost every night.
