Here’s mine – Don’t take things personally.
What’s yours?

When I opened my iPAD first thing this morning, still under the covers, and saw David Bowie’s name in the headlines, I shuddered. Several times, I had to read the words that he had died. It was so mind-altering and earth-shattering, I couldn’t fathom it. Bowie seems immortal, beyond life and death. How could the planet, or in fact, the solar system, continue without him. I’ve consumed lots of social media about the wrenching news, and the most comforting was this tweet: “If you’re ever sad, just remember the world is 4.543 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist the same time as David Bowie.” What a miracle.

Excerpt from President Obama’s OpEd in the New York Times:
“Even as I continue to take every action possible as president, I will also take every action I can as a citizen. I will not campaign for, vote for or support any candidate, even in my own party, who does not support common-sense gun reform. And if the 90 percent of Americans who do support common-sense gun reforms join me, we will elect the leadership we deserve.”

After hearing predictions about El Niño for months in California, we’ve finally gotten our first taste, with 2 days of near nonstop rain. (There’s a break right now, and I hurried to get in a dog walk.) My dog is freaking out, but so far, most humans I’ve encountered in Los Angeles are appreciating the weather. I’m very grateful there’s nothing leaking, no floods or mudslides near me. My only gripe is the newly-broken zipper on my raincoat.

Congratulations on making it through another holiday season. We did it!! Now that it’s 2016, there’s a proliferation of ads for diet aids and exercise equipment, and the media is filled with stories about New Year’s resolutions, whether they work and why. Through the years, I’ve made assorted pledges about online dating, drinking more water and worrying less. But this time, the thought of conjuring up a new commitment to something I wasn’t already doing didn’t even cross my mind. How about you?
