I have a friend, a dapper dresser, who often mixes plaid with herringbone. I admire that. My instincts aren’t matchy-matchy, e.g. brown and black, no problem. I’m less certain when it comes to patterns. How willing are you to go out on a limb with your prints?

Love mixed patterns and would do more if I spent more on my wardrobe as it takes the right pieces.
Check this out from The Sartorialist – the best mixing of patterns ever http://bit.ly/1Kgdi6b
I’ve been admiring her since she first appeared on The Sartorialist. My idea of perfect. Something to aspire to.
The Sartorialist is aspirational. And inspirational.
A friend of mine just purchased some polka dot ties to “stand out” in his band. I say mix and match with stripes! The last two years I’ve become more bold with my pattern choices. But once upon a time I, too, used to just buy blacks and grays but lately I’m a big fan of florals of all kinds. (my house decor reflects the same ) I especially like donning a bright top during the grey days of Wisconsin Winter.
Hailing from SF & NYC, I have strong internal voices that say, only wear black and gray.
I barely have any clothing that’s not a solid color, and most of it is grey blue, black, or white. I can admire more daring clothing choices on others, and very much enjoy the Sartorialist and other street style photographers, but for myself a more muted palette suits much better.
From my years in San Francisco, I have a great scarf collection. That’s where I do patterns and color.
