From years of walking the hills in San Francisco, I got in the habit of wearing flat shoes, with particular fondness for the Oxford. I carried this preference when relocating to Los Angeles, despite its being the land of the girly heels. These days, I often stand out with my clunky urban footwear. And I kinda love that.

Apparently it is my somewhat-newly grey hair. My sister, whom I had not seen in over a year, visited last week and asked me, so, why did you stop coloring your hair? And my 4-yr old neighbor (a boy) said to me recently, your hair is GRAY!
I’m not really sure what’s behind either comment, just the fact that hardly anyone has gray hair anymore. I like how it looks, and love to be free from all the mess of coloring, and let it do its own thing.
But I guess I am definitely bucking the trend, just like your sensible oxfords….
Senator Barbara Boxer was on TV recently and she’s allowing herself to be gray. And she looks so fabulous.
I still wear Vans and Converse! And I’m over 40. Yes agree, it does stand out in LA.
I recently bought a pair of slip-on sneakers. They’re very chic these days. Even cute with skirts.
I adore Patrick and his stripes.
I’d wear that!
