Should have included the subtitle: A Journey into the Real Russia.
Yes, all of Russia is the domain of V. Putin but life of everyday Russians in the small towns and villages is vastly different from that of Putin and his crew in Moscow.
I spent some time in Russia during the Soviet era, including traveling through the small villages and it was truly a world apart, and still is, apparently.
Oh, my, yes. Screens are addictive. I, too, am flagging on the book reading, save for cookbooks (currently having a blast reading The Flavor Thesaurus).
I haven’t cracked a hard copy of The New Yorker in ages (though I read it online.) After years of being on the fence, I’m thinking of changing my subscription to digital only. Yikes. What’s happening?
I love getting a ‘real’ copy of the New Yorker in the mail every week; it’s the only thing coming through the mail slot to look forward to. I pay all my bills online etc so what the USPS delivers all goes directly to recycling apart from that.
Much too much online reading these days. Prince’s death has sunk me into the abyss. At first I devoured all I could get my eyes on and it helped with my deep sadness plus I learned some music history that had alluded me. And it goes with out saying I listened to some fantastic music. Now It’s making me a little cranky and I need to commit to a book.
I recently finished “Just Mercy” by Bryan Stevenson. So many feelings! Mostly that Bryan Stevens deserves a damn medal and S4VUVIP boarding into heaven. Been reading on and off since Christmas “Paris Wife” by I Can’t Remember. I don’t think the real people / real events / made up dialog and relationships genre is for me. “Essential Business Concepts for Lawyers” I bought with high hopes of educating myself to help with moving toward corporate work very reliably helps me fall asleep!
I read some newspapers on-line & I have four blogs that I follow.
I read a lot of books … right now ‘The Lost Imperialist’ by Andrew Gailey.
I could not bear to think of life without books.
I’ve been such a slacker lately when it comes to reading books. I’m not sure why.
Getting ready to read “Putin Country” (reserved for me at the library.)
Have also started but not got too far with “The Noise of Time, “Julian Barnes’s novel on Shostakovich.
In a Russian frame of mind lately …
Putin Country? I’m afraid to ask….

There are a lot of Russian immigrants in my neighborhood. In my completely unscientific study, the country seems to have left scars.

I’ve now started to dread getting them, because it makes me feel so guilty that they pile up, unread.

Any books in mind?
Approximately a bazillion pages of student writing. Oof.
Oof, indeed. Any redeeming part of that?

I think I’ll pass on the last one.
