I hate having my photo taken, but I needed updated shots (without sunglasses) for my Career Coaching website. For the occasion, it seemed important to elevate my makeup. The last time I’d bought foundation (and used it) was 2009 and it had now become crusted over in the back of the bathroom drawer. With a sense of duty, I slid into the chair at the Lancome beauty counter and let Rodolfo have his way with me. All it took was eyelid Primer, BB cream, 3 shadows, eyeliner, mascara primer, mascara, powder, lipstick and I was set.
I never even heard of mascara primer …
Me, too, Robin. And I wear mascara almost every day!
I have to say, the mascara stayed on without smearing until I took it off that night.
I use what’s called tubular mascara. It doesn’t run or smudge but is easily removed with water unlike the ‘waterproof’ ones. I get it on ebay for about $15.
Is tubular the brand?
The makeup artist said that it keeps your mascara in place for a longer time. After Rodolfo completed my makeup, I purchased a few items, taking his advice on the essentials. He did not say the primer was a “must have.”
Damn, that sounds like a lot of makeup for you. You look great with the minimal stuff you wear day to day. But then again a good photo might demand more. Hope you’re happy with the new photos.
My basic makeup is minimal – mascara, a bit of shadow and lipstick. But for photos, it’s important to step it up. Occasionally, I do interviews via Skype or Google Hangout, and that’s another situation where I’d like my skintone to look more polished. Definitely special occasion stuff, and I’m glad to have it stowed in the drawer for the next time.
I also recently discovered powder foundation, which I use a quick swipe of every morning. But it’s also practical if you aren’t going to use all the time – won’t dry up like the liquid kind.
The makeup artist literally painted the foundation onto my face. It was like a work of art, and something I can never imagine doing. (He said you use too much with your hands.) The powder sounds way easier.
Someone at my local natural foods store recommended the powder (brand is Ecco Bella, natural/organic skin care and makeup) – I would’t have known it existed but it is nice and light and smooths out skin tone well without looking (or feeling) like you have lots of ‘stuff’ on your face.
When I was wearing the makeup for the photo shoot, it felt very light. My issue is often about having to take the stuff off.
I never wear make up but a couple weekends ago, my friend and I went to a high end make up shop and went on a rampage trying on everything they had. It’s wasn’t for any reason other than to have female bonding time, it was great. I even let the make up consultant touch my face, which I never let strangers do. It was actually soothing to be pampered. I didn’t buy anything of course, lol.
How did the makeup look?
the tubular mascara brand is DejaVu Fiberwig. It comes from Japan. I think there are other, more expensive American brands that sell tubular mascara. but I have used this for several years and it works great. It can be a little gloppy to apply but does not come off.
Where do you buy it?
eBay!
After googling, also saw it on Amazon.
