This is such a sweet image. Their mutual dream looks like the way one of my (75-lb) Labs likes to sleep with me at night. He is not so much for napping with me though.
Yes, I saw that. I don’t necessarily agree. He may have a point with regard to rescue dogs who might have trust issues etc. Both my dogs snuggle up to me voluntarily in their own ways so I don’t think I am stressing them by giving them a hug! He suggests giving them a treat instead of a hug – that’s not very satisfying somehow. A huge part of the appeal of a dog is tactile. Why else do they have soft, silky, fluffy coats?!
To my dismay, Rose is not a snuggler. I’ve had her since she’s 8 weeks ago, and she has always been very independent. She likes to be in the same room, but with some physical space. Sometimes, first thing in the morning in bed, she’ll cuddle for a few minutes. And she does love her belly rubbed.
My first two dogs were girls and while friendly and sweet were not snuggly–they were much more independent. The two I have now are both boys and very affectionate. Several friends have remarked on this difference as well.
Sometimes (often, actually) I wonder how much this behavior transcends species -I think women have the capability to be more self-reliant and independent than men. But I guess that’s a whole topic unto itself …

Twenty minutes in the middle of the day can refresh me. This is very true after nights of fitful sleep. Fortunately I can close my office door. I don’t often actually sleep, but being able to rest with my eyes closed works wonders.

Did you read the recent article about why we shouldn’t be hugging our dogs. http://n.pr/1NaZQSt

I envy the napper.
