This week, my ballet teacher brought his active, 11-month old daughter to class. The mom is also a dancer, and she was there taking class, they switched off tending to her, and somehow it worked. I was watching him hold his daughter above his head, turning her upside down, spinning her around, and he’s a towering 6’4”, so that’s high up. And I thought, this girl will probably never be afraid of heights (unlike me). She’s going to be physically fearless.

I, too, have a fear of heights (when in the open). You should see/hear me as I give myself encouragement when I do my yearly Cleaning of the Gutters (and I live in a ranch house!) And I practically hyperventilated on the ferris wheel at Chicago’s Navy Pier (I got on with a friend and her daughter–had to make myself look straight ahead and not down). On the other hand, I am not afraid of spiders, bees, or public speaking, so I’m grateful for that.
It would be nice to be free of this phobia, but I consider you fearless anyway. You have the guts to go after a second career, you put forth the personal on your blog, and you’re self-employed (I so admire you for this!)
Thanks for the pep talk, Petra. I really appreciate it!
