Rushing Towards Summer

nguan.tv.june

As we hurtle towards the longest day of the year, I want to put the breaks on to slow down time. Its passage was particularly meaningful this week, when one of the true lights of my life died at the age of 88, without much warning. About a month ago, I’d written about Betty here, and I thought she was going to be around forever. I’m trying to grapple with never seeing her again. She lived and died on her own terms, and I take comfort in that. But the seasons move way too quickly.

Wendy, I’m so sad to hear about your friend Betty. I know how much she meant to you and what an inspiration she was. But her inspiration will mean that her legacy will continue. Yes, we should grab every moment we have.

I appreciate that, Lisa. We’ve been sharing lots of Betty stories in ballet class, and that helps.

I am so sorry, Wendy. I remember reading that post and finding Betty to be so inspiring, one of those women some of us hope to emulate. Hugs to you.

Thanks, Petra. I will continue to be inspired by Betty, and I’m so grateful to have had the chance to know her.

Thank you, Leyla. As I was walking to ballet class this morning, and thinking about how Betty used to zoom past me on the street, I really missed her.

I’m really happy that in April, I’d written a post about her, and got to say out loud how much I appreciated her in front of all of you!
