Jumping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Strøk.Paris (1)

Last month, I posted an image that was a declaration to those waiting to be ready to take action, to go for it now. In following up on that, I want to ask you to take a challenge this week. Do one thing that’s out of your comfort zone. And if you feel like it, share it here!

As for me, today, I assembled a side table that I recently bought at Crate & Barrel. This kind of thing is hard for me. I was glad there was no one watching for they would be rolling with laughter as I tried to make sense of the instructions and use a wrench. What would probably have taken someone else 15 minutes took me an hour and a half. But I did it. And the table is great!

Kudos to you! And instructions often leave out the things I have questions about (especially IKEA instructions ).

And I’ll take you up on your challenge, though I have to think about this first. I have a week, after all.

Kudos to you. I can remember putting together a TV cart (remember those). Half wY thru the instructions said “have your helper….). Looked around for my “helper” and laughed. I did get it put together!

Yesterday, I ran into the handyman who does a lot of work for people in my building. I was telling him my experience of assembling the side table. And he said that he hates doing that kind of thing. That made me feel so much better.

    I did this, this week!

I rented a kayak, and went out on Lake Tahoe and paddled around by myself. I’ve never *been* in a kayak and the last time I paddled in a boat, I was in elementary school 🙂

It was awesome and I’m already looking for the next opportunity to do it again!

Can I count something from last week? I went to a professional conference WAY outside of my zone. Among other uncomfortable-to-me things, it involved theatrical role-playing with a bunch of extroverts equipped with rhetorical fireworks and a general feeling of having NO IDEA what was going on. I wish I could say I had a great growth experience, but the jury’s still out on that. Mostly, I’m just thrilled to be back at home!

The cord to my sewing machine hasn’t had great connection and yesterday it finally bit the dust. I have some things that I need to finish sewing today, so was impatient to fix the problem immediately rather than order a new cord and then wait several days. I could tell that the problem with the cord had to do with one small patch where the current wasn’t flowing. So I went online and watched several you-tube videos on how to repair an electric cord. Armed with an exacto knife and electric tape, I actually fixed the cord myself! I am so amazed, it seemed like a repair that was WAY out of my realm of capabilities. Although actually it was quite simple, nothing I’d need a Journeyman’s for. And it’s such a relief to have the problem fixed.
