Love Kai Samuels-Davis’s work and this one is very special. Some of his portraits remind me of Alice Neel’s work which I treasure. Kai is very talented.
Happy weekend to all.
Don’t actually remember Wendy but he’s been on my radar for about a year.
I just looked at his etsy shop and there’s a print of this made to order for $30.00. It looks nice but not sure it would satisfy knowing the original is an oil painting.
I adore this painting! And the weekend was only semi-relaxing, but in a good way! Birthday weekend, so I did what I think I do best–hosted a dinner party and did a lot of cooking (and a fair amount of advance prep). Goat cheese-stuffed pork tenderloin, wrapped in prosciutto and then puff pastry, served with apple-sage sauce, herbed mini potatoes Anna stacks, simple roasted broccoli, and a purchased–but delicious–loaf of bread made with spent grain from a local brewery. Started out with a trio of cheeses from my favorite creamery, plus local lamb sausage. Ended with my almond decadence birthday cake! Flipped the usual birthday thing–giving gifts to my friends instead of receiving them (okay, some did bring a gift, even though I asked them not to–still, I was moved by their generosity). Mix of singles and coupled. The only problem was that I had neglected to tell a friend what time the party was, so she assumed she wasn’t invited and didn’t want to show up uninvited. I felt very bad about that, but she was incredibly gracious about my oversight/miscommunication. I do have the best friends in the world! So, a flurry of activity Saturday, and much relaxation (including a nap) on Sunday.
Every part of that menu sounds delicious. You have very lucky friends, Petra. And a happy, happy birthday to you! May it be a year filled with joy and meaning.
Petra, Just gotta say it – You are one hell of a woman. That is an impressive meal you made It feels like love manifested in food. I’m sure it tasted fantastic from start to finish. I suspect the conversation matched the food. Sending you birthday greetings and much appreciation.
Wendy and Jules–thanks for the birthday wishes! I intend to make this a very meaningful and joyous year. Being part of the FPS community brings me great joy!

I’m new to his work. But I’m already a fan!
I love this painting! Thanks for sharing.
I’d enjoy owning this painting.
Yes, it would be lovely to live with this. It thrills me when an everyday object becomes sublime.
When did you become familiar with this artist?

Yeah, I don’t think the print would satisfy the craving.

Already so humbled, I was somehow relieved that Petra didn’t also make the bread.
