When I was in San Francisco last weekend, I stayed with my friend who’s a coveted fashion designer. Her collection is beautiful. As I was packing to return home, she pulled a skirt from her closet that she’s never worn. It’s too small for her now, but fits me perfectly.
Tell me something good that has happened to you lately.

After years of not attending any church services, last weekend I visited a church that has promise of being an inclusive community. I’m going to take it slow, but I’m excited to go back this week. It’s hard to find an open-minded, inclusive church! Fingers crossed. 🙂
That’s a big step. I hope you’ll be able to find meaning and community there. Being a part of my synagogue has been a transformative experience. It’s the nexus for so much that is good in my life in L.A.
My new niece was born on Sunday!
That’s GREAT news. Congratulations Aunt L.
I just got a free sandwich at Starbucks!
How did that happen?
Right place, right time! The staff made a mistake on a prior sandwich order, then asked if I ate bacon and gouda (of course!) So I was the lucky recipient of a sandwich. Good thing, because I was hungry for lunch and didn’t bring anything to eat. I walked in to work that morning (~2.6 miles–not long, but not short, plus it’s warmer than usual here this November). It was good fortification for the walk home.
That’s a fortuitous day. How was the sandwich?
Something good that has happened to me lately — Last night was another day I went to bed sober, and I woke up today alive and ready to take on the day. Alcoholism is I have struggled with, mostly privately, and through the program of AA, I’ve learned to live one day at a time and try to have gratitude daily. In a really strange way, this has helped me tremendously over the last week since the election. Gosh, has it only been a week?! Anyways, as cheesy as it may sound, I can work on TODAY and live today right. It helps me not worry about what the next 4 years might look like. This is not to say that I don’t try to take the right action today that will positively affect the future, of course I do. But thinking of “just for today” helps me not get too overwhelmed.
Thanks for trusting us with this, Lola. I really appreciate it.
We had three gorgeous fall days in Boston last weekend, and I went for many sunlit walks surrounded by gorgeous foliage.
Are there still leaves on the trees?
I was asked to help with the lighting for our community youth theater production. Art saved me when I was a kid, and I’m glad to pay it forward.
What kind of art do you like to do?
Writing, music, and crafting (especially knitting). I’m a theater fan too, but I have no talent for the stage.
Are you knitting something right now?
Wendy,
I think last weekend was the grand finale. There’s not much left now. But we’ve had some lovely sunsets (at 4:30 pm!).
Days feel so short right now. I’m turning the lights on earlier and earlier.
