When I used to run a media organization, we would have our flagship event every January. My staff and I were working like crazy this time of year. But something would notably shift around December 15. You could no longer count on reaching anyone else in their offices. People were wrapping up their year-end tasks and getting ready for vacation. This meant we had to complete our external correspondence by then. Today is that day, and I can sense the turn in the season. Can you? And how are you feeling about it?

It finally became cold yesterday morning. Its 16 degrees. I went out this morning and enjoyed the chill. I like this time of year when everything slows down. I wish I could hibernate.
How would you hiberate, if you could?
Tired-Sometimes it seems like the holiday time of year gets too frantic and over done. Then I realize it really is only once a year and feel kind of guilty.
Are you traveling during the holidays or staying put?
Christmas dinner is at my house so I don’t’ need to go anyplace. However I do put a fair amount of effort in the preparations. How about you?
I’m not a big Christmas/New Years holiday fan, but my workaround is an annual Christmas dinner at my home. It gives me a focus. What’s on your menu Gigi?
Various appetizers
London Broil
Roasted Potatoes
Asparagus with lemon butter
Cesar Salad
Greek chicken (for me and my cousin who have a beef allergy)
Bread and butter
Wine
Dessert-Baklava, cookies, fruit cake and cheese cake.
And whatever else anyone brings its usually a big buffet, and everyone takes home leftovers.
And like you it does give me focus. What are you having at your party Wendy?
Love your menu! I had a vegetarian for dinner, so I designed a meatless meal.
House-roasted spicy almonds
Sourdough bread toasts with goatcheese and homemade fresh fig preserves
Eggplant lasagna
Chocolate ganache cupcakes
Wendy your menu sounds delicious! This winter I have promised myself to invite just a few people over for dinner I just want to get in the kitchen and feel warm cooking for others.
Happy New Year!
That’s a great resolution. There’s a real pleasure in nurturing others with food.
