I love traveling alone! I can visit where I want, for however long I want. The feeling of being in a foreign country and dependent only on myself is a very empowering one.
It depends for me. I frequently enjoy traveling alone, and find it empowering, but generally it works better when I’m in a big city with lots of ways to keep myself busy. Some places I definitely wished I were with someone who knew the area better than I did. Other times I’ve been happy to be fully in control of my time and my itinerary – I can wake as early or late as I want, wander until I’m tired, eat when I’m ready, and not worry about anyone else. I’m not the type of person who meets people easily and makes friends when they travel solo – but as long as I have a book, I’m never really alone. 🙂
I do not. Stinks because I can finally afford to travel more but it’s hard to find a friend who is willing (and who I would enjoy traveling with). Maybe I should try a solo trip once.
My first solo trip was not until believe it or not 05/05/05 ha! I went to New Jersey to pick up my used Audi. I left the dealership and drove to Atlantic City all alone. I had NEVER been anyplace alone and I was like yeeehaaa.
It was still one of my most favorite trips. To this day when I travel alone I feel awesome. My single sister just up and went to Paris this past spring all alone and loved it too.
Dining out alone is not that much fun but it’s not the worst thing either.
I don’t mind traveling alone but a companion always makes it better and more memorable.
I’ve never enjoyed traveling alone. Living alone, on the other hand….

That’s great, Laura. How do you feel about eating meals alone?

Your list of traveling benefits is why I enjoy being single.
I like traveling alone, but only to big cities. I went to DC alone last summer for a few days and really enjoyed myself!
When I’ve traveled for business, I’ve enjoyed eating alone. But it gets old after more than 3 – 4 days. What do you do for meals?

When it comes to traveling companions, it’s so important that it’s the right person. Lots of folks at FPS like traveling solo. It’s inpsiring.

You paint such a vivid picture of you in the Audi. Thanks!
