Sadly, I’ll be doing quite a bit of work. But I do plan to bake a loaf of bread to take to my monthly vegetarian potluck on Monday night (btw, I’m an omnivore, but the food and especially the company at the Meatless Monday gathering is always superb!)
I haven’t baked break for years and years. But as I was brining corned beef this week, I thought maybe next time around, it could be fun to bake rye bread to accompany it for sandwiches.
Really, really good. So flavorful. It was a lot of work, with 6 days of brining and 4 hours of braising. But I’d do it again. And that’s the true test.
Well I did not plan it but I when I sat down to dinner we had a great thunderstorm.
If feels special to sit at my kitchen table next to the window and watch nature.

How was the corned beef?

Did you bake bread? And if so, what kind?
I did. A loaf of Jim Lahey’s no knead bread with a 24-hr rise in a cool house. Very well received at the potluck.
I hadn’t heard of this recipe, and just read that it’s one of the most popular of the NY Times.

It’s a lovely image. Taking in nature is a wonderful way to enjoy the weekend.
