Holding On to Summer
Starting next week in Los Angeles, kids will be returning to school. The daylight is beginning to ebb. Summer is speeding by and I want it to slow down.

Wendy, students have been back to school for a week now and yes, the days are getting shorter. It’s been a cool summer. That said, I am actually looking forward to the changes. I’m at my most thoughtful and introspective when it’s dark out. Even my daily meditation seems more fruitful in the fall and winter. I saw the first local pumpkins at the farmers market this morning.
It’s so hard to wrap my mind around back to school in early August. When did that happen? And here’s one area, Petra, where you and I part company. I LOVE summer.

I’m with you Petra. I love fall. My life always deepens with contentment more accessible. . In LA, summer reaches to October and I’m eagerly and somewhat restlessly anticipating fall changes.
And you don’t mind the daylight slipping away?
Not much. I love twilight and night. Sometimes I wish for a little more late afternoon light for a walk but the other plusses for me out weigh this. Also, I really don’t like the heat of LA summer, so cooler temps makes me very happy.
Today was a nice day in L.A. Not too hot.
