It can be hard to know the right time to make an exit – whether it’s in relationships, where you live, or as a Career Coach what has become my area of expertise – your job. Particularly as we get older and more dug in, all these decisions have enormous ripple effects. For any FPS readers who might be having an employment “dark night of the soul,” I wanted to share my best advice on 5 Reasons It’s Time to Leave Your Job.
This is the 2nd time in 3 days that I’ve posted an illustration by Eiko Ojala. I’ve just discovered his work and I love it!
Well with 35 work days left before I retire, my 5 reasons are.
I can.
I will be happier.
It’s great leaving at the top of my game, and leaving happy not bitter.
I was not bringing anything new to my job, it’s time for someone else to be in my role.
I don’t like going to work anymore, time to enjoy a 2nd childhood.
The countdown continues, Gigi. Any plans for that first week off the job?
Yes, celebrate and try to get used to being retired. I do have a few holiday road trips planned for me and my dog Tula. We enjoy visiting small town downtowns and visiting the great shops and eating outside even when it’s cold out.
And then around the beginning of January after the holidays I will start working on my house, mostly painting. I am looking forward to all of it.
I look forward to hearing about it every step of the way.
I checked 4 of the 5…I retired as of 1 October, and so far, it’s been good.
Having a pension and savings is, of course, a big help, and made the decision easy.
Not everyone has resources, something I’m well aware of.
What are you enjoying the most this month?
The weather in Colorado! No more sitting in a fabric box while everyone else seems to be outside in the sunshine.
Fabric box? I’d never heard that expression.
Well, that’s what I call the Dilbert-esque cubicle system most offices consist of now.
Although I’m old enough to remember when big offices had just rows of desks in the open – we would have killed to have the relative privacy of a fabric box in those long-ago days.
You’re freeeeeeeeeeeee!
