Doris Day, RIP

It took a 21st century vantage point for me to appreciate the talent of Doris Day. I became a huge fan. Her sunny on-screen persona belied a stormy personal life. After 4 failed marriages, she turned to animals, which became her lifelong calling. “I have never found in a human being loyalty comparable to that of any pet.”

Cleaning Supplies

First thing tomorrow morning, I’m heading to Costco for my quarterly outing. I’ll be loading up the cart with jumbo-sized containers of laundry detergent, toilet paper, Parmigiano Reggiano and dog biscuits. There’s nothing like a well-stocked home.

Cooking for One Kitchen Essential

I can’t imagine a cooking life without my trusty storage containers. Through the years, I’ve amassed a formidable collection. As FPS readers know, I frequently make big batches of stews, chilis, stocks, baked goods – then divvy them up, mark the date (very important!) and stow them in the freezer. Let the eating begin.

My aging dog has been slow-walked and fed. I’m ready for a martini and Rachel Maddow. What’s on your adult time schedule?

Making Space for Audacity

This is my weekly 24-hour exercise in believing in hope and possibility. A lot of the time I have to fake it, but it’s worth a try – especially when you’re in the midst of a difficult journey. I hope you’ll join me.
