Growing up, I never appreciated the sophistication of my mother’s menus. It was a time when canned fruits and vegetables were the rage. But every summer evening at our table, Mom began our dinner meal with a first course of fresh melon, and every winter evening, it was ruby red grapefruit.

I LOVE red grapefruit!!! Especially when sprinkled with a little sugar and then broiled a little while. Yum. We frequently had it at dinner too. And shrimp creole and chicken and dumplings. I think my mom was right up there with yours!!
My mouth is watering!
