I remember exactly where I was on the day that Dianne Feinstein became mayor of San Francisco. Harvey Milk and George Moscone had just been assassinated. It was a devastating time for our city. Fast forward to more than 30 years later, and I had the opportunity of meeting her at her office in D.C., when I was lobbying on behalf of immigrant rights. She was 75 at the time, and a towering presence.
