I always make myself chicken soup at the first sign of a cold. Even the Mayo Clinic says it has healing properties.
For beef less stew, you use Gardein “beef” tips (made from wheat gluten). I also make the broth from Better than Bouillon no-beef base. Those are the two key ingredients. Rest include potatoes, carrots, pearl onions, fresh Rosemary, fresh thyme, celery, red wine…it is so delicious and comforting especially in the winter.
Popcorn with butter
Nachos, but they must be layered so that each chip has toppings
Pizza with anchovies, hot peppers, and pineapple
Lasagna
Green tea
Vodka martini
How could I forget lasagna? It’s one of my favorites. Also meatballs and spaghetti.
wendy, the mashed potatoes must have garlic and the bagels must have lox. now that’s comfort.
I also like garlic in bagels, and it resting on top of my pizza. And oh yes, it sure is good on mashed potatoes.
In college every Saturday night before my friends and I would go out we would troop down to the cafeteria for chicken patty sandwiches with blue cheese dressing and tater tots. To this day if I’m having a Saturday night where I’m feeling a little insecure or lonely I make this for dinner.
Hmmmm. I haven’t done this for awhile. So far I don’t anticipate anything on the agenda for next Saturday night, maybe I’ll bring out the old favorite.
Michele, if you make it, please report back.
Chocolate Guinness cake – the ultimate comfort dessert (if you’re into cake and beer). My favorite recipe: http://applepiefromscratch105.wordpress.com/2012/03/17/guinness-chocolate-cake-8/
