  1. Went on a date with someone I met online.

    Horrible. Just horrible.

I had my first appointment with a therapist. I anticipate a long, slow, steep road and am needing to remind myself to be glad I started.

I can’t think of a better thing to do for oneself. I have taken the plunge many times, and it has changed my life.

I second Wendy’s remark. I’ve been attending therapy for over a year and I can tell you there is no way that it won’t benefit you and your future personal growth. I’m sure you are aware of this, but I just advise you to “vet” your therapist and make sure that you feel comfortable with them and that you two are a good fit.

    • wendy says:

Good point, Kate. It’s got to be the right therapist. But I can’t say I’ve had a bad experience. I view therapists as important advocates, and an essential part of getting through life in one piece.

  4. Ehm says:

Thanks so much for the reassurance! Really, it’s so helpful to hear your perspectives and hopeful, too, to start to think of the therapist as a life-changing resource and ally.

  5. Sabine says:

I started say “no” to the outside…and “yes” to the inside, to me.

    • wendy says:

I’m often reminded of my friend, the therapist’s most useful phrases when feeling envious. “You’re comparing your inside to somebody else’s outside.”

I completed my last class, of the last course, to complete my Masters of Clinical Social Work from Boston University!!!!

Took me 20 yrs to complete my BA in 2010. Credit by credit, following divorce, young mom. While I was in the groove…I kept on soaring through to grad school!
