At first it felt good to get back into some difficult problems and exercise the grey matter. Now I’m back to feeling overwhelmed with so many problems to solve, never enough time/resources, the expectation to work 10 hrs a day based on an unrealistic plan.
I read somewhere recently that you never really get to take your “earned” vacation because you spend many extra hours tying up loose ends before you leave, and extra hours when you return to catch up.
For some reason this holiday season, I was able to rest my brain. Though now, it’s already hard to remember the feeling. I hope the rest of the work week goes well for you.
I should add this to my comment above: what I read has been my experience, too. I just wonder why it has to be this way (the obvious ‘fear’ is job loss). But how did it come to this?
A few weeks ago, I met a teacher who holds down a second full-time job at a law firm. She told me she often gets only 2 -3 hours a night of sleep. And I thought the same thing, Kathy – how did it come to this??
Well, my university closed for two days due to the snow and temperatures and I ended a relationship. So I guess I’m batting .500
.500 is awesome in baseball. Not sure how it feels for you. Stay warm.
Ugh. Blue Monday- most depressing day of the year is the Monday post-holidays. I honored the tradition.
The Sunday night before the Monday is pretty rough too. Glad to be through both of them.

Sad.
