One of my annual treats is the sweet bread Panettone, which emerges in the markets right around Christmas. I love it in the morning with tea, and always buy a few extra to sustain me through the holiday season. I’m just about done with my stash, and will soon have to get back into my daily granola routine. What healthy foods have you resolved to eat in 2014?

More local and non-factory farmed meats and poultry. I’m pretty close to this anyway, but one of my holdout meats is sliced deli turkey. So I will replace that with some local, humanely and sustainably raised sliced turkey.
And more citrus (2-3 times a week) for my skin. I quite like grapefruit, am ambivalent about oranges. But I’m eating more citrus (in whole fruit form, no juice!).
And getting artificial sweeteners OUT of my diet–sayonara flavored skinny Starbucks lattes!
That’s a healthy list! What are the benefits of citrus for skin?
Vitamin C and lycopene. I think citrus can also be used topically, but I’ve not looked into that.
Duh, just remembered that my Murad moisturizer has Vitamin C in it.
At least one additional piece of fruit or serving of veggies a day. If I reach for an unhealthy snack, I tell myself I must first eat one healthy thing, then I can snack. It’s difficult sometimes, but I’m trying to make it habit.
I like your framework. It reminds me of my no new hanger rule. When I get something new to hang in my closet, I have to first remove something that I no longer wear.
I’m hoping this spring is as kind to my greens as last. Last year, I didn’t buy salad greens for MONTHS because my container garden was in overdrive due to cool, damp conditions. Heck, I ended up giving some broccoli and kale away because I couldn’t eat them fast enough, despite only gardening about 20 ft2.
I’m having food-fresh-from-the-garden envy.
Farro, an ancient grain that is relatively new to me.
How will you preparing it?
Boiling it, with stir fried or steamed veggies and tofu/seitan. Perhaps with Tahini.
I’m not sure about Seitan. Are you a fan?
I do like Seitan, especially in stir fry, especially when it comes in cubed form.
Can I assume you don’t eat meat?
