Off to a Fresh Start

Marc Johns 2015

On this, the mother of all Mondays, I’ve already fallen short on a New Year’s resolution. My desk, which I’d committed to clearing and cleaning this past weekend, remains a disaster. Oh well. Here’s a way more important goal – to focus on what’s good, and not what’s missing. In light of that, my desk actually looks amazing. What will be your focus?

YES … always good to take the high ground on things … look at what you HAVE done, never might what remains.

Focus on the good, not on what’s missing is great advice. Sounds like it will foster more contentment in life, and more creativity in many situations. Thank you for the wise words!

  3. Resolutions, like diets, start on Mondays, regardless of when 1/1 falls.

On the other hand, you have the entire year to be successful at your resolutions. So…

    You didn’t blow it yet.

You’re right, Beth. This past weekend was really still the holidays. And in fact, I did clean my desk today. Whew!

Speaking up and speaking out. And (okay, this is two, though certainly related)–embracing feelings of discomfort (I read it stated as “getting comfortable with feeling uncomfortable).

When I’m feeling stressed and I’ve gone through all the tools in my coping toolbox, the last one is always, “getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.” Sometimes that’s all we can hope for.

Ha! I also had big plans for a clean and newly organized desk for Monday, but got sidetracked over the long holiday with the flu. I managed some good progress yesterday and am not going to let the delayed start deter me. I like your notion of focusing on the good instead of what is missing. My plan for the year is to stay focused on the things I want to achieve this year.
