Billie Holiday – such a seminal figure. Strange Fruit, groundbreaking and particularly significant with contemporary news from South Carolina adding to the long list of transgressions. I often try and imagine what it was like for her to sing this song.
I hadn’t thought about the lyrics in a long time. And you’re right. It’s eerie how relevant they still are.
