I’m trapped inside my house. Just me and my bunny and my books. It’s not bad, but I definitely wouldn’t more than two days of this.

I had come down with a bad cold earlier in the week so it was a nice excuse to take it easy. I went for a short walk during the brunt of it, but the winds brought me hustling back in. And then yesterday when the skies parted I went for a long walk to see how the neighborhood looked. Was quite beautiful and DC was actually quiet for once. I will say that throughout the storm and walking around, I got a few pangs of loneliness…watching families playing in the snow and couples enjoying the the views, while I was alone. But just a few pangs, otherwise, I tried to embrace the silence and solitude.

Thanks for sharing the loneliness part. That makes sense. I’m glad you moved through it and embraced the good stuff.

Hey Leyla! I have been cooped up in my condo with my two bunnies and a ton of books all weekend. We got over 2 feet of snow down here and as usual Virginia is doing a lousy job of getting everyone plowed out in a reasonable time. Got outside today–HAD to take a walk and take some pictures. My Safeway is totally out of produce and most bread. I must confess, I did miss having human company. Last time we had a storm remotely like this, I was still married, living in a townhouse and this kind of thing inspires romance, you know? But I have enjoyed the solitude–so grateful I never lost power, though I prepared for it! Pre-made coffee and stocked up on wine. 🙂

Pre-made coffee. That’s thinking ahead. Gas stove to reheat?

Yes, Wendy, I do have a gas stove. But luckily I didn’t lose power. Just waiting now for public transportation to get back up and running. None of the buses I need to get to work are running yet. We are not very good here at storm recovery, I am afraid.

I have an electric stove, which was one of my only hesitations in buying my condo. (It’s a 1963 building, electric only.) I’ve learned to live with it, but I really miss gas. And when there’s a power outage (which happily is rare), I’m screwed.
