Aside from my passion for the First Person Singular community, I’m also a Career change Coach. Many of my clients are in a mid-career transition, and switching gears is not an easy thing to do. That got me to thinking about what it really takes to start over. I’m excited to share my new article that got published today in the Huffington Post. (Yay!) Though it focuses on what it takes to start over in a new career, I believe the tenets hold true for resetting in other areas of life, too. I hope you’ll check it out. And please let me know if it resonates with you.
I read your article, Wendy, and I love it! You address it to different sets of readers (I’m sorta, kinda Scenario 1–starting to think about a post-retirement career or life. It’s another 10 years or so away, but I’ll want to ease into it beforehand.)
Question about the DuHigg book: is this a book I’d have to read at once, in order, or would I be able to read a chapter here and there, now and then? I’m afraid I don’t have the best track record with businesss-y non-fiction. I start, but don’t necessarily finish.
I’ve read 2 of Duhigg’s books. They’re smartly written and really interesting. You can definitely read a chapter at a time – But let me say that it’s not a breezy read. What would be your motivation to read it right now?
It’s gotten some excellent press.
Duhigg is an excellent storyteller. In every chapter, he offers in depth explorations of people and/or companies that prove his point. They’re always interesting, but it’s not possible to quickly scan to get to the facts (which sometimes I’d prefer).
Very nice article, Wendy…and, like you said, applicable to any change/improvement one wishes to embark on. I especially like your weaving in Duhigg’s perspective on BELIEF in change. So important, and an excellent reminder. Thanks for the timely inspiration to reset!
Getting comfortable with discomfort is something I tell myself almost every day.
Congratulations Wendy. As someone who has started over a number of times, I can relate.
If I may ask, what have you started over?
