It’ll be quite a while for me (probably not before mid-July). Our spring happened in February this year–since then it’s been topsy-turvy. First warmth, then a return to cold. In fact, last night we had some patchy roof frost in my neighborhood. An organic farmer friend said that she’s rarely seen a spring this challenging!
I have some basil plants that I’d love to put in containers and keep them out on the deck, but I’ve resorted to bringing the potted one into the garage and the others I haven’t even gotten into proper pots yet! At least the chives are doing great (and the parsley is coming along). But I’m envious that you are much closer to satisfying tomatoes! And do keep us posted on your farmers market offerings. My weekly market starts this Saturday and I am very much looking forward to it, even if it’ll be mostly lettuces, bedding plants, meat, and eggs. Oh, but those eggs (duck and chicken)! Anyway, now you’ve got me yearning for a proper tomato!
I walked into my local Whole Foods market today and there were peaches on the shelves. That’s crazy. (I’m skeptical that they’re any good.) I remember when I lived in the East Coast, it wasn’t really safe to plant until after Memorial Day. Here’s to fresh chives!!
