Creating Options

Regular FPS readers know that I host a lavish, annual Christmas dinner for close friends at my home. I started the tradition about 10 years ago to insure that I’d have a place to go for the holidays. All the planning, prepping, cooking and even setting the table with red and green decorative touches gives me a sense of belonging during an otherwise fraught time of year. There’s no mistletoe here, but lots of options for hugs and kisses.

You’ll have to let us all know the menu! I love that you enjoy the whole package–planning, table decor, everything! This sounds like a big, beautiful love and joy fest!

Friends are bringing appetizers (though I’m roasting sweet & spicy almonds). First course is celery-celery root soup with horseradish cream. Main: Julia Child’s Beef Bourgignon and for dessert chocolate ganache cupcakes. Shopping is done. Tomorrow, I start cooking. Oh boy!

Wendy, I’m curious…how did you manage to start this wonderful tradition with friends? I always feel that Christmas Day is off limits with people as they have family obligations. Hope your dinner went well. Sounds yummy!

It began with a group of my Jewish friends, who are similarly disoriented on Christmas, and don’t have the same kind of family obligations.
