April 22, 1970 was the first Earth Day. 22 million people took to the streets to demonstrate for a cleaner environment. Within months, Richard Nixon proposed the creation of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Now, almost 50 years later, the crisis is more urgent than ever.
