Oh, those pearls! What a stylish woman!
I’m grateful that my mom instilled in me a love of reading. And she taught me that I should spend less than I earn. And to buy/wear simple, classic clothes. And not buy too many of them.

That family picture is wonderful, did your Dad take it?
To answer your question, my Mom taught me to always be helpful and kind and what love is all about. To love my family and friends even during tough times. To keep a clean home and always share it with others. And to be a good hostess and never let anyone leave hungry.

I’m not sure who took the photo. My brother shared it with me recently, and it’s become one of my favorites. Such sweet learnings from your Mom. She sounds very loving and nurturing.
My mother, Katherine, has always told me to “be brave and strong.” This is our mantra; at work in times of stress, with ups and downs of relationships or even when shopping (do I need this? BE BRAVE AND STRONG) It is clear and to the point. Just like she is.
What does bravery mean to you Lauren?
My biological mom died when I was 20 years old and at that time it was a very difficult relationship because I wasn’t really out of my adolscent years. My surrogate mom who I met around that time became my “mom”. I have known her for nearly 30 years and she has always been single. She has given me countless gifts and has helped me became the women I was meant to be. She taught it to how to be a strong independent woman which I know wouldn’t have happened with my birth mom. I love her more than words.
It must have been so hard to lose your mom at 20. But what a gift to have met a woman who would have such a lasting and positive impact on your life. Thanks for sharing, Kathy.
