I didn’t have a good reaction to this photo and it took me a minute to consider why. Perhaps I initially took it wrong, but it felt a bit oppressive to me. But now I’m thinking it could also mean they are on a limited budget. Which is probably more true. You’d never see a man holding up such a sign. The feminist in me doesn’t like it.
I agree with Dee. It feels like it’s from an oppressive time (“honey, you can’t have everything”). On the other hand if it means “I can afford the ring OR the tickets, not both”, it maybe means the experience of the game is more important (and hopefully they both got to attend).
I hope the sign was a originally a joke and made into a sign to get on tv. I love though that she seems to feel experiences are more important than material goods. I too hope it was a budget thing. I’m sure he’ll find her a less expensive ring or maybe find some cash somewhere else. My father sold his stereo system to help pay for my mom’s ring 🙂

I’m over analyzing, as usual!
As a long time baseball fan, I loved how excited she was to be at the World Series. From my read, even more so than getting engaged.

That’s so interesting. I had a such a different take. World Series tickets are much more important than an engagement ring.
Especially since the Cubs (the Cubs!?!) are in it.
Exactly.

IMHO, engagement rings seem like an outdated idea.
